I have been admiring Violet Fane's work for a while, so when the preorder for this iconic print was announced last year, I knew I had to get it. It was basically a birthday gift for myself, since I got in may, but it wasn't until october that I used it for the first time. I think the mortuary theme fits perfectly with the season. I considered getting the black colorway, but the light colors give a bitter-sweet vibe I am drawn to, with the pink and white flowers covering the coffins and tombsones.

This is by far the longest dress I own. But it doesn't bother me, since lately I've been enjoying longer dresses for more classic looks. 

He estado admirando el trabajo de Violet Fane ya por un tiempo, así que cuando se anunció la pre-orden para este print icónico de la marca el año pasado, supe que tenía que conseguirlo. Básicamente fue un auto-regalo de cumpleaños ya que lo compré en mayo, pero no fue hasta octubre que lo usé por primera vez. Creo que el tema mortuorio encaja muy bien con la temporada. Inicialmente consideré comprar la versión en negro, pero los colores claros dan una vibra agridulce que de algún modo me atrae más, con las flores blancas cubriendo los ataúdes y lápidas. Este es de lejos el vestido más largo que tengo. Pero no es algo que me moleste, ya que últimamente he estado disfrutando usar vestidos largos para los looks más clásicos. 

 

The fabric is light, and feels really soft to the touch. It also has a luxurious subtle shine. The print itself is very sharp and detailed. If you put some attention, you can actually read the names and inscriptions carved on the tombstones. I think that's a really cool detail! I also noticed the placement of the border print is not the same for all around the skirt. As you can notice, the bigger coffins with the tombstones crowned with skulls are placed on the front, while the print for the sides features smaller coffins and stone crosses. 

La tela es ligera, y se siente suave al tacto. También tiene un sutil brillo. La impresión per de es bastante nítida y con un alto nivel de detalle. Si prestas suficiente atención, es posible leer los nombres e inscripciones grabados en las lápidas, lo cual es un detalle muy genial. También noté que la colocación del print no es la misma alrededor de la falta. En el frente se emplazan los ataúdes más grandes con las tumbas coronadas por calaveras, mientras que a los lados se tienen ataúdes más pequeños y cruces de piedra.  

  

There are two different kinds of lace: one for the border of the skirt, and another as a detail on the bodice. I think both are very well placed to enhace the design of the dress. There's also a detachable brooch that also has a clip, so you can use it on your hair if you like. It's made with a beautiful texturized ribbon and flowers made of fabric. The ribbon is attached to the metal parts with glue. I've had no issues with it but I heard some people received theirs broken, so it's something to keep in mind.

Hay dos tipos de encaje: uno para el borde de la falda, y otro como detalle en el corpiño. En mi opinión ambos contribuyen a las propiedades del diseño haciéndolo más interesante. También hay un broche broche que se puede retirar y que además cuenta con un clip de modo que pueda ser utilizado en el cabello. El broche cuenta con una cinta texturizada muy bella y flores hechas de tela. Se ha utilizado pegamento para sujetar el lazo a la parte metálica. Si bien personalmente no he tenido ningún problema con esto, he sabido de algunas personas que recibieron los suyos despegados, lo cual es algo a tener en mente. 

The JSK comes in two sizes: S-L and L-XL. I was between sizes so I ordered the biggest one because I wanted to play it safe. I found the fitting okayish, being my main issue that the princess seams seem to be placed incorrectly, so there's some fabric that gaps on the armholes. I found many people have this exact same problem and have fixed it in many different ways, some more extreme than others. The back shirring is also really generous, which is a good thing if you are on the more plus sized range, but I would have prefered it a bit tighter. I still haven't found a tailor or seamstress trustworthy enough to do major alterations, so I am going to try with minor fixes I can do and undo at home easily.

El JSK viene en dos tallas: S-L y L-XL. De acuerdo a mis medidas, me encontraba entre ambas tallas, así que pedí la mas grande para estar segura de que me iba a quedar. En general el ajuste está relativamente bien, siendo mi mayor problema que las costuras tipo princesa parecieran no estar correctamente ubicadas, por lo que al usarse hay un poco de tela sobrante cerca de los huecos de los brazos. Por lo visto bastante gente tiene este mismo problema, y varias han podido solucionarlo de distintas maneras, algunas con ajustes más radicales que otros. El fruncido de la espalda es bastante generoso, lo cual es bueno si estás en el rango más plus size, pero para mi gusto lo preferiría un poco más ajustado. Aún no he podido encontrar un sastre o costurera lo suficientemente confiable para encargarle alteraciones muy radicales, así que cuando tenga la oportunidad voy a probar algunos arreglos sencillos que pueda hacer y deshacer en casa fácilmente. 

 

As I mentioned, the JSK has full back shirring, so it's really comfortable to use. The straps are attached to the back with one button. I think in this case, considering the width of the straps, it would have been better to use two buttons instead. Also, the buttonhole is a bit too big, but I think that's a really easy fix. 

Como mencioné anteriormente, el JSK tiene fruncido en toda la espalda, por lo que es bastante cómodo. Las tiras de los hombros están sujetas con un sólo botón. Considerando que son algo anchas, en mi opinión hubiera sido mejor utilizar dos botones para mayor seguridad. El ojal también es un poco muy grande. Pero en mi opinión ese algo que se puede solucionar muy fácilmente. 

 

I think it's worth mentioning that the brand uses a custom printed lining. Even if no one is really going to see it, it's a really nice detail that makes the piece even more special in comparison to other brands.

Because of the fitting problems, I'm not 100% satisfied with this dress considering I bought it new and it was a bit expensive. But the design and print are so gorgeous it is definitely one of my favorites. I think once I will be able to tailor it, I will love it even more. I've seen some people using it outside lolita fashion, which speaks a lot of its versatility. I definitely can see this jsk becoming a staple in my wardrobe. 

Creo que vale la pena mencionar que la marca usa un forro con un print personalizado. Aún si nadie va a verlo, creo que es un lindo detalle que hace la prenda mucho más especial en comparación con otras marcas. 

Debido a los problemas que he tenido con la construcción del vestido, no puedo decir que esté 100% satisfecha, considerando que lo compré nuevo y fue algo caro. Pero el diseño y el print son tan hermosos que definitivamente es uno de mis vestidos favoritos. Creo que una vez logre entallarlo adecuadamente, voy a amarlo aún más. He visto que algunas personas han usado este vestido fuera del lolita fashion, lo cual demuestra que es una prenda muy versátil. Definitivamente puedo ver este jsk convertirse parte permanente de mi armario.
