Baby, The Stars Shine Bright & Alice and The Pirates [Variety Pack]
This was my first time buying a lucky pack (also known as fukubukuro)! In the past, I've always refrained from buying one since the idea of spending the money and maybe getting something that I wouldn't like or wouldn't fit me was too discouraging. I researched a bit online trying to find references from past years but I could't find a lot, so I decided to post mine. Maybe someone someday will find it useful.
¡Este año fue mi primera vez comprando un lucky pack (también conocido como fukubukuro, o bolsa de la suerte)! Anteriormente siempre había dudado bastante sobre comprar uno ya que la idea de gastar tanto dinero y que tal vez me viniera algo que no me gustara o no me quedara era muy desalentadora. Busqué en internet algunas referencias de lucky packs pasados pero no pude encontrar tantas como hubiera deseado. Así que he decidido publicar el mío. Tal vez alguien algún día lo encuentre de utilidad.
You can usually buy these lucky packs from their online store. But because Japan Post isn't shipping to my country, I asked a Shopping Service to buy it in the physical store for me and send it through Yamato Transport. So keep in mind these extra espenses raised the overall cost of the lucky pack, Hopefully next year Japan Post will resume their operations and I will be able to buy directly.
This time the bags were supposed to contain from 4 to 5 items, 2 of them being clothes, including at least one OP or JSK from either brands. So, this is what I got!

Pero debido a que Japan Post no está haciendo envíos por EMS a mi país, decidí contactarme con un shopping service para que lo comprara en la tienda física y me lo enviara mediante Yamato Transport. Así que hay que tener en mente que estos costos adicionales elevaron el costo total del lucky pack. Con suerte el próximo año Japan Post retomará los envíos hacia mi país de modo que pueda comprar directamente desde la página web.Este año las bolsas debían contener entre 4 y 5 ítems, 2 de estos siendo prendas de vestir, incluyendo al menos un OP o un JSK de cualquiera de las dos marcas. ¡Así que esto es lo que me vino!

This was the only Baby, The Stars Shine Bright item I got and the only main piece. It was also the first item I pulled out of the bag. I have to say I was really ecstatic when I first saw it! I have to admit when this was released I didn't pay much attention to it. And to be fair, the stock photos don't do it justice (mine neither). But it is a really gorgeous piece in person. The colors are vibrant and blend together beautifully giving a spring-like feel to it. For some reason, the lavender shades, the flowers and windows remind me of Rapunzel in the tower. So now this is now my 'Punzie dress!
Este fue el único ítem de la marca Baby, The Stars Shine Bright que me tocó, y también fue el único vestido. De hecho, también fue lo primero que saqué de la bolsa. ¡Debo decir que apenas lo vi estuve extasiada! Admito que cuando esta colección fue lanzada no le presté mucha atención. Y para ser justos, las fotos de stock no le hacen justicia (las mías tampoco, por cierto). Pero en persona es una pieza verdaderamente maravillosa. Los colores son vibrantes y se combinan muy armoniosamente, dando una vibra muy primaveral. Por algún motivo, los tonos lavanda, las flores y los ventanales me recuerdan a Rapunzel en la torre, ¡así que ahora este es mi vestido de Rapunzel!
The design is really intricate and has many details that make this dress a very elegant piece that you can dress up very easily for more special occasions.
It was two sets of ribbons you can tie into bows that are placed in the straps and the upper part of the bodice. And there is also another one in the middle of the bust area with a golden charm with the brand logo. The waist bow is also detachable which is always a nice detail. I specially loved the lace used, which is very soft, and features single butterflies that add to that spring-like sensation.
El diseño es bastante intrincado y tiene muchos detalles que hacen de este vestido una pieza elegante que puedes coordinar para que se vea lujosa para cualquier ocasión especial. A cada lado tiene dos pares de cintas que se pueden atar en lazos, uno en la parte superior de los tirantes y otro en la parte superior del corpiño. También tiene otro lazo en el medio del pecho, donde además hay un dije dorado metálico con el logo de la marca. El lazo de la cintura se puede retirar, lo cual siempre es un buen detalle. Me gustó especialmente el encaje que usaron. Es muy suave y delicado. Y también se tienen algunas mariposas de encaje colocadas estratégicamente, y que además suman a esa sensación primaveral.
The fabric used is very light chiffon. The skirt allows to pull it up using shimmery ribbon to keep it in place. At first I thought the skirt was sewn like this, but actually you can untie the ribbon and pull it down, so you can accommodate it to your personal liking. In my opinion that's a really cool detail which makes me love this dress even more!
Another thing to mention is that despite the official description listing the max bust and wasit measurements as 99 cm and 84 cm, this dress definitely runs a bit bigger, which is something I am also really thankful since I was able to put it on comfortably with a little bit of spare room.
La tela usada es chiffon muy ligero. La falda se puede levantar en 4 puntos usando cintas que tienen un acabado brillante. Al inició pensé que la falda había sido cosida de esta manera, pero luego noté que puedes desatar los lazos y jalar la falta de modo que esté completamente abajo, así que la puedes acomodar según tu preferencia personal. En mi opinión, este es un detalle bastante genial que me hace apreciar el vestido aún más. Otra cosa a mencionar es que a pesar de que la descripción oficial indica que las medidas máximas de busto y cintura son de 99 cm. y 84 cm., este vestido definitivamente queda grande, lo cual es algo de lo que estoy muy agradecida, ya que pude ponérmelo sim problemas y contando con aún un poco de espacio libre para mayor comodidad.

A very classic blouse from Alice and The Pirates, very suitable for ouji and dandy too.
The color is a gorgeuous silver with a blueish hue. The fabric has a rose pattern brocade and a very elegant shine in the petals that makes it look really elegant. The buttons are golden roses made of actual metal, which is a really nice touch I always appreciate in lolita fashion items.
Una blusa de corte clásico de Alice and The Pirates, bastante apropiada también para el ouji y el dandy. El color es de un hermoso tono plateado con un matiz que tira al azul. La tela se distingue por su brocado con patrón de rosas, las cuales en sus pétalos cuentan con un hermoso brillo que hace ver la pieza bastante elegante. Los botones son rosas doradas hechas de metal, no de plástico, lo cual es un detalle que siempre aprecio.
Sadly I don't own many classic pieces since I wear mostly sweet. But I think this would look amazing paired with black or deep blue. I will try to experiment with it a bit before considering passing it on to someone else. Also, this blouse doesn't fit me in the chest area. But the sleeves are quite comfortable and the design itself is so nice I am considering using the piece of fabric that comes with it for tying the neck bow to alter it and make it bigger. Or maybe just use it open under a JSK because, who will notice it anyway?
Lamentablemente no poseo muchos vestidos de corte clásico, ya que uso principalmente sweet. Pero creo que esta blusa se vería increíble combinada con negro o con un azul profundo. Voy a tratar de experimentar un poco con ella antes de considerar la posibilidad de venderla. Cabe mencionar además que esta blusa no me cierra en el pecho. Pero las mangas son bastante amplias y cómodas. Y el diseño es tan hermoso que estoy sopesando la posibilidad de utilizar la tela destinada a atar el lazo en el cuello para ampliar la blusa. O tal vez simplemente opte por usarla abierta debajo de un JSK, ya que, ¿Quién se daría cuenta de todos modos?

An Alice and The Pirates cardigan that is made of a mix of black threads and silver lame that adds a soft shine to the piece and that is almost impossible to photograph. The material is quite thin, so it's best suited for mid-season. The buttons are made of beautiful round rhinestones and the brand logo is embroidered on the right side. Sadly these little detais are so tiny they are not that noticeable at the fisrt glance. But either way, this is the only thing I've already used so far, since it blends so easily with my normal wardrobe. I can see why this knit went on sale, because its design is so simple compared to the more standard cardigan. Specially on the front, since it's appeal is mostly on the back.
Un cárdigan de Alice and The Pirates hecho con una mixtura de hilos negros y plateados, que brindan un suave brillo a la pieza y que es casi imposible de fotografiar. El material del que está hecho es bastante delgado, apto para media estación. Los botones están hechos de piedras brillantes y tiene el logo de la marca bordado a un costado. Lamentablemente estos detalles son muy pequeños y pasan desapercibidos a simple vista. Pero curiosamente es la única de las prendas que a la fecha ya he usado, ya que se puede combinar fácilmente con mi armario normal. De todos modos, puedo entender que haya terminado en la sección de descuentos, ya que el diseño es bastante simple comparado con lo que usualmente son los cárdigan y boleros lolita. Especialmente en el frente, ya que el verdadero encanto de esta prenda está en la parte de atrás.
As you can see, the back has gorgeous lace and a cute little bow. I specially like the "V" shape of the neck, it's very flattering in my opinion. There's something about the simplicity and yet very detailed design of this piece that I like a lot. I am not sure how often I will use it with lolita, but because it's so versatile I'm certain it will be incorporated to my more normal outfits .
Como se puede ver, en la parte de atrás tiene una sección con un hermoso encaje de flores, y un adorable lacito que lo corona. Me gusta especialmente la forma en "V" del cuello, en mi opinión es bastante favorecedor. Hay algo sobre la simplicidad y a la vez el detalle en el diseño de esta pieza que hace que me guste mucho. No estoy segura qué tanto lo usaré con el lolita, pero ya que es tan versátil, estoy segura que la incorporaré a mis outfits de diario.

A gorgeous jabot I am not sure what to do with since I don't wear ouji! I like that they used a lot of lace, so the appearance is really full. The strawberries and the striped ribbon are detachable. So I'm probably going to use those separated to enhace my berets or other accesories.
I am not sure if I want to sell it since I'm trying to convince my boyfriend to wear it in an ouji coord. We actually tried to style it differently using different brooches!
Un hermoso jabot con el cual no sé qué hacer ya que no visto ouji. Me gusta que hayan usado bastante encaje, así que el resultado final tiene bastante volumen. Las fresas y el lazo rayado se pueden retirar. Así que probablemente los use por separado con mis boinas o con otros accesorios. Aún no estoy segura si quiero venderlo ya que estoy intentando convencer a mi novio de que se lo ponga con un coordinado ouji. De hecho, sólo para probar intentamos combinarlo usando diferentes broches.
I'm probably going to keep it for a while and then see if I can sell it to someone that will actually use it and give it the love it deserves.
Probablemente me quede con el jabot por un tiempo y luego decida si finalmente lo venderé a alguien que sí lo pueda usar y le pueda dar el amor que merece.
Was it Worth it?
The cost of the Lucky Pack was ¥22,000 (including tax), aproximately US$ 210, and the total value of all the items is ¥ 70,848 (US$ 675). Their estimated resale value in the second hand market should be around US$ 300 - 380. In my opinion, that's a good ratio, and you definitely get your money's worth, even adding the shipping and shopping service extra costs to the equation. So, in the worse case scenario, you should be able to get back what you invested or at least almost all of it. Of course that will depend on how fast you can resell the items and how popular or unpopular they are.
El costo del Lucky Pack fue de ¥ 22,000 (incluyendo impuestos), aproximadamente US$ 210, y el valor total de los ítems es de ¥ 70,848 (US$ 675). Su valor estimado de reventa en el mercado de segunda mano fluctuaría entre los US$ 300 - 380. En mi opinión, es un buen ratio, y definitivamente obtienes el valor de tu dinero, aún agregando los costos adicionales de envío o de shopping service a la ecuación. Así que, en el peor de los escenarios, deberías ser capaz de recuperar tu inversión, o al menos la mayor parte de esta. I don't think many people buy Lucky Packs with the intention of reselling it though. And I think their actual worth will depend mostly if the main piece is a nice one, and that is completely subjective. I would have been really disappointed if I got something I didn't like or didn't fit me, specially if it turned to be an unpopular piece you can't resell easily. If that happened, I would have expected all the accesories to be good as a compensation. So keep in mind it's always risk.
No creo que muchas personas compren lucky packs con la sola intención de revenderlos. Creo que su valor dependerá mucho de si la pieza principal es buena o no., lo cual es algo completamente subjetivo. Me habría sentido realmente decepcionada si me hubiera tocado un vestido que no me gustara o no me quedara, especialmente si resultara ser un diseño poco popular que no hubiera podido revender fácilmente. Si eso hubiera pasado, hubiera querido que todos los demás accesorios hubieran sido buenos para compensar. Así que hay que tener en cuenta que siempre es un riesgo.
My favorite thing was, quite obviously, the dress. The second place is for the cardigan, because I can see myself using it a lot. The blouse is an amazing piece but because it doesn't fit me I'm not sure if I will keep it or sell it. The jabot... I definitely didn't like it because I don't wear ouji.
In my personal opinion, this Lucky Pack was already worth it for the dress alone, so the rest feels like a nice little "extra". I will probably try my luck again if I have the means to do it, unless other brands release something more tempting.
Mi cosa favorita fue sin duda el vestido. El segundo lugar es para el cárdigan, ya que me puedo ver usándolo bastante seguido. La blusa es una pieza hermosa, pero como no me cierra, no estoy segura si me la quedaré o si la venderé. El jabot... definitivamente no me gustó porque no uso ouji. En mi opinión personal, este Lucky Pack definitivamente ya había valido la pena sólo por el vestido, así que todo lo demás se siente como un genial extra que suma un valor adicional. Probablemente me anime intentar con mi suerte de nuevo si es que en el futuro vuelvo a tener los medios para hacerlo, a menos que otras marcas ofrezcan algo más tentador.
